Laura Ann Tull’s Claims About Eric Dane’s ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Exit Don’t Match What’s Known About His Departure
Actress Laura Ann Tull has faced criticism after accusing late actor Eric Dane of bullying on the set of Grey’s Anatomy and suggesting she played a role in his departure from the show. Her claims have drawn backlash because the widely accepted reasons for Dane’s exit contradict her version of events.
Tull took to social media shortly after Dane’s death at age 53 to allege that he mistreated her while working as an extra on Grey’s Anatomy, and she went further by saying she contacted people with influence about his behaviour shortly before he left the series in 2012. She described Dane using harsh language and suggested his illness and death were some kind of “karma.”
Public records and previous interviews paint a different picture of what happened when Dane’s character, Dr. Mark Sloan, left Grey’s Anatomy. Dane joined the long-running medical drama in its second season and became a regular cast member. He departed after the eighth season, and the storyline for his character’s exit was described by show creators and Dane himself as tied to the evolving direction of the series and storytelling, not as a result of personal conflict with cast or crew. Dane had openly spoken about being ready to move on and acknowledged the creative reasons behind his exit.
At the time, industry sources also noted that decisions about cast changes on major television shows are usually planned well in advance as part of broader production and budget planning. This makes it unlikely that any single staff member, especially one in a background role, would directly influence a major cast departure.
Additionally, Tull’s own career résumé shows she worked primarily as a background performer on various TV shows without major speaking roles or credited involvement in key creative decisions, which further casts doubt on her assertion that she had a pivotal role in Dane’s departure.
Because of these discrepancies, many entertainment observers and fans have pointed out that her version of events does not align with the well-documented accounts of how and why Dane left Grey’s Anatomy, undercutting her claims.
