Tig Notaro Says She Was Sleeping When Oscar Nomination Was Announced

Tig Notaro recently shared a humorous story about how she found out she had been nominated for an Academy Award. The comedian and producer told Variety that she was fast asleep when the nominations for the Oscars were announced this year.

Notaro was at home early in the morning when her wife woke up around 5:00 a.m. and saw the list of nominees. “She didn’t wake up on purpose,” Notaro said, describing how she was still dozing with earplugs in, an eye mask on, and tubes from her CPAP machine nearby.

The nomination honors Notaro’s work as a producer on the documentary Come See Me in the Good Light, which was directed by Ryan White. The film follows two poet lovers facing an incurable diagnosis and explores themes of love, mortality, and the meaningful moments in life.

Notaro spoke warmly about the project, saying it was guided by “love and patience” and stressing how important it was for the documentary to feel authentic and caring. Her reaction to the Oscar nod has become part of the story, underscoring her low-key and candid sense of humor even in the face of major recognition.

The upcoming Academy Awards ceremony, where the film’s nomination will be celebrated, marks another important moment in Notaro’s career across comedy and production.
