Samartex fans didn’t know who I was – GPL title-winning coach Nurudeen Amadu

FC Samartex coach Nurudeen Amadu has revealed how fans of the club were initially skeptical about his capabilities to lead the team.

The tactician led the club to its first Ghana Premier League title despite the club’s inexperience in the top-flight

Amadu, who took over the reins in July 2023 from former coach Annor Walker, has steered the team to an impressive victory in only their second season in the top flight.

Reflecting on his journey, Coach Amadu shared his elation and recounted the doubts he faced when he was appointed.

“Not many people at Samartex, including the fans, knew who I was,” he told Akoma FM in Kumasi.

“Winning the league is a huge accomplishment because the goal was to finish higher than last season, not to win the league. For me, it’s a dream come true.”

The 53-year-old gaffer, who previously managed King Faisal, credited key individuals who supported him along the way.

“A big thanks to Prof Mintah who recommended me to Samartex, and many thanks also to Edmund Ackah, who believed in me a lot,” he said.

Under Amadu’s leadership, FC Samartex has delivered an outstanding performance this season, winning 18 matches, losing 10, and drawing 4 out of the 32 games played so far.

This historic league title is not only a personal triumph for Amadu but also a significant milestone for FC Samartex, marking their ascension in Ghanaian football.
