A retired Senior Police Officer, ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzo, has called for a review of the awards and promotions regime of the Ghana Police Service.
The call is on the back of the numerous suits that have been brought against the Ghana Police Service for awards and promotions.
The High Court in Kumasi has dismissed the suit filed by Chief Inspector Samuel Krah against the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the State over his promotion.
The court presided over by Justice Kwasi Anokyi Gyimah in a judgment on Friday 14th June 2024 said the Chief Inspector is not entitled to automatic promotion solely based on attaining higher academic qualifications.
Speaking on Hot Edition on 3FM, June 17, ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzo says the current regime is opaque.
“The challenge now in the Police Service is the opaque nature with which he current Police administration is handling promotions, awards and recommendations. People need to know who is qualified for what and how? But we don’t see that anymore. There are laws that govern these and if it’s not fit for purpose now, then it should be reviewed”, he argued.
