The Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, Elder Nana Amo Tobbin I, has gifted players of Medeama SC Football GHC100,000 and some medical supplies for winning the Ghana Premier League.
He also pledged to partner with Medeama SC for the 2023-2024 CAF Champions League by giving the team monthly support.
In addition, the Tobinco Boss has pledged to provide life insurance including traveling and injury packages for all the players.
He has also promised to purchase a bus for the team if they win the next Champions League.
Nana Amo Tobbin I, who is also the Dwantuahene of the Apinto Traditional Area in the Western Region rendered the kind gesture when the entire Medeama SC Football Club visited him at the Head Office of the Tobinco Group of Companies, Spintex.
Medeama SC were crowned champions of Ghana after a successful 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.
The Tarkwa-based club ended the campaign top of the league with 60 points to win their first-ever Ghana Premier League title.
The team beat Tamale City in a dynamic style at the finals to win the trophy after over 40 years of trying.
The Tarkwa-based team together with its leaders, including Club President, Mr Moses Parker and the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem who is also the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in charge of mining, Mr. George Mireku Duker presented the GPL trophy to the Tobinco Boss yesterday at the company’s head office.
The team did this to honour the Tobinco Boss who is also from Tarkwa- Awudua.
Nana Amo Tobbin I, who thanked God for helping the team to win the trophy commended them for putting up an incredible performance during the season and going for the ultimate, bringing honour to the land of Wassa.
However, he advised the team not to be complacent after winning the trophy and urged them not to relent in their efforts to forge ahead.
He also encouraged the players to eat well, do a lot of training, and eschew womanizing since it will not help their careers.
The Tobinco Boss advised managers of the team not to sell players now to foreign teams until they were well-groomed and experienced.
He was of the view that if the players are sold earlier than expected, they may flop in a short time, underscoring the need for them to play and serve the Nation for some time before they leave.
Nana Amo Tobbin I also encouraged young ones who have a dream to play football to go for it and work hard towards it to achieve their goals.
Meanwhile, the Tobinco Boss Commended the President of Ghana and the entire Government for how the Government has developed the Sports Industry.
He however called on the Government to build more stadia to enable younger men to pursue their football careers.
He also called on the Government to support Medeama SC as they go for the Champions League which is set to start in December 2023.
Mr. George Mireku Duker for his part was awed by the performance of the team and noted that he had to present them to parliament for the honour they have brought to Wassaman.
He also noted it was important for the team to visit the Tobinco Boss knowing very well his support.
He even conferred on the Tobinco Boss the Wassaman Hene in Accra, saying the people of Wassa always call on the Tobinco Boss when they need help, therefore the need to also call on him when something good comes out of the Tarkwa.
Proud Mr Duker thanked the Tobinco Boss for always supporting the people of Tarkwa, especially the team even at short notice.
For his part, the President of Medeama SC Football Club, Mr Moses Parker thanked the Tobinco Boss for his kind gesture and his continuous support towards the team and his prominence in the society.
He recalled that in 2015 when the team won the FA Cup which qualified them to play in the CAF Confederation Cup 2015, they called on the Tobinco Boss and he supported them financially and with prayers.
He was amazed by the continuous support of the Tobinco Boss to his team and therefore dedicated the team to him, saying they were just going to lead the team to achieve their goals.
President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour who observed the need to present their trophy to the Tobinco Boss Commended the team for its successful feat.
