The Labone Old Students Association recently organized a health walk, promoting physical fitness and well-being among its members

The Labone Old Students Association recently organized a health walk under the theme “Together, let’s walk towards a healthier future!” The primary objective was to promote a healthy lifestyle among alumni by emphasizing the importance of regular physical activities. The National President of LOSA, Listowel Agbeli, highlighted the event as an opportunity for old students to unite, identify, and address challenges facing the school. Agbeli also acknowledged the contributions of alumni to school improvements, citing examples like renovations and the installation of polytanks, reinforcing the alumni’s commitment to supporting their alma mater.

During the health walk organized by the Labone Old Students Association, the National President, Listowel Agbeli, expressed the belief that greater collective participation would yield even more significant results in addressing challenges faced by Labone Senior High School. Despite the turnout being relatively small, Agbeli commended the effort, emphasizing that the current level of support demonstrated that they are making a positive impact.

The Headmistress of Labone Senior High School, Mrs. Rejoice Akua Acorlor, acknowledged the ongoing collaboration between the school, LOSA, parents, and the government in addressing challenges. She also emphasized the importance of additional support from stakeholders and individuals to further enhance the school’s development. Mrs. Acorlor commended LOSA for their sustained commitment, noting that if all alumni associations contribute collectively, it could significantly contribute to the improvement of various schools.

The LOSA National Organiser, Mr. Stephen Nii Amon Kotey, urged all year groups within the association to conduct field trips to Labone Senior High School. The purpose of these trips would be to identify specific issues and actively contribute to addressing them. This call reflects a proactive approach, encouraging direct engagement and collaboration from different alumni groups to better understand and support the school’s needs.

Aside from promoting healthy lifestyle among the people, the event also provided an excellent platform for alumni to reconnect, reunite, network, and strengthen already existing relationships with fellow LOSA members.

The walk covered an approximate distance of 8.7 kilometers, beginning from the Labone Senior High School campus through the Cells Bridge Road to the La Community Bank, then to the Osu Castle Traffic Light to Danquah Circle, through Morning Star, Labone SDA School, and finally back to the Labone SHS Campus.

In conjunction with the health walk, the Labone Old Students Association organized a free health screening session in collaboration with Rayan Hospital. The screening included tests for Blood Pressure (BP), Body Mass Index (BMI), and Blood Sugar, along with free Eye Testing provided by Van-J Eye Care for participants. This initiative aimed to promote overall well-being by offering essential health assessments to attendees.

Additionally, the event featured inter-year group fitness challenges, adding a dynamic and engaging element to the gathering. Activities such as armrest, musical chairs, skipping rope, football totals, Fortuner penalties, flip the bottle, and a spinning game were organized to encourage participation and foster a sense of camaraderie among the alumni. These fitness challenges likely added a fun and competitive aspect to the event, contributing to the overall success of the health-focused occasion.
