The government has taken action, according to the deputy minister of finance, to make sure that election overspending is prohibited in the 2024 budget.
Speaking in parliament, the Atiwa East member recalled how previous administrations had taken advantage of the national budget to gain political capital.
She states that this will not occur under the current administration and that in order to prevent the ongoing stabilisation effort from being derailed, the current administration is committing itself to strong fiscal consolidation modalities.
“The government has engaged in a variety of projects to garner support during election years by using them as auction periods.” However, in order to maintain the hard wall stability that we are seeing, this administration is dedicating itself to strict budgetary consolidation and effective management of current commitments,” she stated on
