Kwame Agbodza, the ranking member of Parliament’s Roads and Transport Committee, is pleading with the government to move quickly to release funds in order to meet its pledge to pay off all outstanding debts owing to former road toll collectors, especially those who are PWDs (persons with disabilities)._
The government eliminated road toll payments nationwide in the 2022 budget that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta submitted to Parliament. This released all individuals who had been hired by the Ministry of Roads and Highways as toll collectors, many of whom were people with disabilities.
The impacted toll collectors have made promises and attempted to force the government to keep its word through a number of protests, but to no avail.
