Creator Of The White Lotus Calls Survivor Fans Sadistic

Hollywood writer, director and producer Mike White, who created the popular series The White Lotus, recently offered a blunt assessment of fans of the reality show Survivor. White made the comment during a conversation on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he discussed his decision to compete on Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans in Fiji.

The fiftieth season of Survivor invites viewers to vote on some of the challenges and game twists, giving supporters more influence than in previous editions. White joked that this fan participation has made the experience intense, calling fans sadistic and adding that they enjoy complicating the game. He quickly clarified his remark by thanking fans for their passion and support.

White is no stranger to Survivor. He first appeared on the show in 2018 in the season titled David vs. Goliath, where he finished second. His return this season came after he found that the filming schedule fit with his other commitments, including work on The White Lotus. According to host Jeff Probst, White rearranged his schedule to join the cast in Fiji because he wanted to be part of the milestone season.

His comments have sparked conversations online about the challenging nature of Survivor and the role that the audience now plays in shaping the game. Many viewers appreciated White’s humour and honesty about how demanding the competition can be for contestants when the audience has a direct say in outcomes.
