Black Stars returned to Ghana early Friday morning after earning a memorable 2-1 victory over Mali during the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Bamako on Thursday night.
The four-time African champions earned three vital points thanks to substitute Jordan Ayew’s stoppage-time strike, ending the Black Stars’ winless run in 2024.
Black Stars touched down at Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi at approximately 1:15 am local time after travelling overnight.
Thursday’s meeting saw Ghana overcome adversity, responding valiantly to going behind. Just before the halftime break, Mali struck through Kamory Doumbia, forcing the Black Stars to confront a daunting prospect.

But Otto Addo’s boys demonstrated resolve and determination in the second half as they restored parity courtesy of a powerful header dispatched by Ernest Nuamah in the 58th minute.
Ultimately, the stage was set for heroics from substitutes Ayew and Issahaku, combining brilliantly to seal the win in the 94th minute.
As things currently stand, both Ghana and Group I leaders Comoros find themselves locked on six points apiece, but Comoros have a game in hand against Madagascar and will hope to win to pull three points clear.
Looking ahead, Ghana’s attention turns squarely toward the looming matchup versus the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday.
