Candice Bergen Admits She Is Still In Denial About Turning 80
Veteran actress Candice Bergen has opened up about her feelings as she approaches her milestone 80th birthday, admitting that the idea of reaching that age still feels difficult for her to fully accept.
During a recent interview, the Emmy Award winning star confessed that she remains in disbelief about the upcoming birthday. She explained that turning 80 feels almost impossible to imagine and jokingly admitted that she is still “in total denial” about the milestone.
Bergen also shared that despite the number attached to her age, she does not feel drastically different from how she felt years ago. According to the actress, aging has not changed her sense of identity or outlook on life. However, she noted that she has become a bit more cautious physically, especially when doing everyday things such as stepping off a curb or moving around quickly.
The Hollywood icon revealed that maintaining an active lifestyle has been an important part of staying healthy as she grows older. She works with a personal trainer about five days a week, focusing on exercises that help keep her body mobile and her joints flexible. Rather than intense workouts, the routine is designed mainly to keep her body functioning well and maintain her overall wellbeing.
Bergen explained that her trainer previously worked with her late husband, Marshall Rose, which made it easier for her to continue the relationship and trust his approach to fitness. She joked that the workouts are not overly demanding, saying they are simply meant to keep her moving and healthy.
As she looks ahead to the next stage of her life, Bergen said her greatest joy comes from spending time with her family. She especially enjoys relaxing at home with her daughter and grandchildren, whom she described as the “lights of her life.” The actress revealed that her grandchildren affectionately call her “Toto,” a nickname that has since been adopted by other members of the family.
Despite her playful denial about reaching such a major milestone, Bergen’s reflections show that she continues to embrace life with humor, gratitude, and a strong focus on family.
