Chuck Schumer Taken To D.C. Hospital During Brutal Heat Wave
The politician was briefly hospitalized “out of an abundance of caution,” according to his office.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), was transported to the hospital Wednesday due to dehydration.
Schumer, 74, was exercising in the Senate gym in Washington, D.C., when he began feeling “lightheaded,” according to a statement from his office obtained by multiple outlets.
“Out of an abundance of caution, he went to the hospital to be treated for dehydration and is now back at work in the Capitol,” the statement said.
Schumer’s office did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
The incident occurred as temperatures soared to above 100 degrees in parts of the East Coast amid a record-breaking heat wave.
Meanwhile on X, formerly Twitter, Homeland Security & Emergency Management in Washington, D.C., issued a warning to residents about scorching temperatures.
