Dax Shepard Says He Felt Peaceful During Near-Fatal Car Crash Experience
Actor, comedian and podcast host Dax Shepard recently opened up about a frightening near-death experience from his youth, sharing that in the moments when he thought he would die he felt an unexpected sense of calm and peace. The revelation came during a recent episode of his podcast, where Shepard discussed real life and near-death experiences with guest Kaley Cuoco and co-host Monica Padman.
Shepard recounted the incident from his senior year of high school when he and a friend were driving late at night from Ohio to Michigan. While resting in the back seat of the car, Shepard was suddenly jolted awake by the sound of gravel, and he looked up to see that the vehicle was veering off the road at high speed. The car began rolling at least ten times down the highway, and Shepard said he was convinced they were about to hit a tree.
In those moments he said he experienced a surprising shift from fear to serenity as he accepted what he believed would be the end of his life. Shepard described the feeling as “shockingly comforting” and said that at one point he felt “totally at peace” despite the danger. Miraculously the car never struck a tree and both men escaped without serious physical injury, crawling out of the wreckage once the car came to rest.
Shepard, who co-hosts the Armchair Expert podcast, later reflected that the experience left a lasting impact on him. He shared that the memory of that calm feeling remains vivid and has stayed with him through the years, shaping his perspective on fear and mortality.
