Co-creators and stars of Schitt’s Creek, Eugene Levy and his son Dan Levy have spoken publicly about their grief after the death of their beloved co-star Catherine O’Hara, who died at age 71 on January 30. Both men paid tribute to O’Hara’s immense talent, friendship, and the deep personal bonds they shared with her over decades in comedy and television.

Eugene Levy released a heartfelt statement describing his shock and sorrow, saying that “words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today.” He recalled knowing and working with O’Hara for more than fifty years, from their early days in comedy through films and six memorable seasons of Schitt’s Creek. He emphasised that beyond their long professional partnership, their friendship was something he deeply cherished and will miss. He also extended his condolences to O’Hara’s husband, Bo Welch, and their sons, Matthew and Luke.

In his tribute, he called the opportunity to work with her a true gift and reflected on the warmth, humour and brilliance she brought to every performance. He said it was hard to imagine the world without her and that he would treasure all the funny memories they made together.
