FIFA celebrates Asamoah Gyan’s stunning strike against USA [Video]

FIFA honoured Asamoah Gyan for his stunning goal against the United States during the 2010 World Cup.

The match, played at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, saw Kevin-Prince Boateng open the scoring for Ghana within five minutes.

Despite a spirited USA comeback with a Landon Donovan penalty in the second half, the game ended 1-1 at full time.

In extra time, Asamoah Gyan unleashed a spectacular strike in the 94th minute, securing a historic victory for the Black Stars and sending them to their first-ever World Cup quarterfinal.

FIFA commemorated the moment with a social media post stating, “Baby Jet turned on the burners for this one in 2010!”

Ghana faced Uruguay in the quarterfinals but lost 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

Asamoah Gyan, who represented Ghana in three World Cups, remains the nation’s all-time leading goalscorer and Africa’s top goalscorer in World Cup history.

The former Sunderland, Stade Rennes, Udinese, Al Ain, Shanghai SIPG, Kayserispor and North East United striker announced his retirement from football in June 2023.
