Charli XCX Says Years Of Her Industry Experience Went Into The Moment
British singer and songwriter Charli XCX has opened up about how her long career influenced her upcoming mockumentary film The Moment, reflecting on the industry pressures she has faced and how they shaped her creative journey.
Charli XCX first gained major recognition with her sixth album Brat, which helped define her unique sound and connect her with a broader audience. She explained that after years in music she learned firsthand how external forces from people and record labels often tried “to mould me and change who I am,” and that those experiences became emotional material she could draw on for The Moment.
The Moment shows a semi-fictional version of Charli navigating choices she might have made in her career, blending humour and industry insight to explore how artists deal with identity and public perception. Charli said the film reflects not only the dramatic shifts she has experienced personally but also universal moments of change many people go through when they transition from one version of themselves to another. She noted that widening her audience exposed her to different reactions, with some people truly understanding her and others seeing only a version they assumed was real.
She also shared that feeling misunderstood could sometimes be frustrating and overwhelming, explaining that challenges like these are part of a broader human experience and not limited to artists alone. The Moment is currently playing in select theaters and will be released widely in early February, offering viewers an intimate look at Charli’s perspective on fame, creativity and perseverance
