Ghana defender Ebenezer Annan joins Serbian champions

Ghana defender Ebenezer Annan has completed a transfer to Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade, signing a three-year contract.

Annan joins on a free transfer as his contract with Italian side Bologna is set to expire on June 30.

The 21-year-old was unveiled on Tuesday and expressed his eagerness to make a significant impact at the club.

“I am very excited and happy to have signed a contract with Red Star. I am glad that my good games were noticed and that I managed to draw the attention of the Zvezda manager,” Annan said.

Annan spent last season on loan at Serbian club Novi Pazar, where he made 30 appearances. Reflecting on his experience, he added, “I’m familiar with the Superliga and I think it’s very high-quality, so I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to continue playing in Serbia.”

The move comes after Osman Bukari’s departure from Red Star Belgrade to Austin FC in the MLS, leaving Edmund Addo as the sole Ghanaian at the Serbian champions until Annan’s arrival filled the void.Over the past year, Annan has improved his game and earned multiple call-ups to the Black Stars. He made his Ghana debut against Nigeria in March this year and also featured against Uganda in international friendlies.

Although he wasn’t invited for the recent World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic, Annan appears to remain part of Otto Addo’s plans for the national team.
