Ghanaian president urges citizens to embrace democratic values.

Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on citizens to embrace the values of democracy to engender progress and prosperity in the West African country late Saturday.

In his televised speech to mark the country’s Constitution Day, which falls on Sunday this year, the president said Ghana has recorded remarkable progress since returning to multiparty democracy, assuring that he would do everything within his power to ensure the gains were not thwarted.
“I swore an oath in 2017 and again four years later to be faithful and true to the Republic of Ghana and preserve and defend the constitution. It will not be under my watch that any adventurer will torpedo the democratic path on which we have embarked,” said Akufo-Addo.
The president called on Ghanaians to embrace the basic values of the Constitution founded on the principles of democratic accountability and respect for the rule of law human rights, individual liberty, and freedom.
Akufo-Addo also urged various stakeholders to work toward ensuring peaceful polls in this year’s general elections.
Touching on the country’s economic challenges, the Ghanaian leader observed that the government has turned the corner and will continue to work strongly at fixing the problems.
The Constitution Day is a public holiday to commemorate the establishment of a new constitution for the fourth republic of Ghana in January 1993.
