John Boyega Confirms He Talked With Lucasfilm Boss Dave Filoni About Future Star Wars Role
John Boyega, the British actor best known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, has revealed that he has had a conversation with Dave Filoni, the new president of Lucasfilm. The brief exchange has sparked renewed excitement among fans and speculation about the actor’s future involvement in the Star Wars franchise.
The revelation came during a panel appearance at MEGACON Orlando, where a fan playfully urged Boyega to put Lucasfilm’s president on the phone. In response, Boyega confirmed with a smile that he already has spoken with Filoni, although he did not provide any details about what was discussed.
Boyega first became widely known to Star Wars audiences when he debuted as Finn in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He continued the role in The Last Jedi in 2017 and The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, playing a former stormtrooper who defects from the First Order to join the Resistance.
While Boyega’s comment does not confirm an official return to Star Wars, his acknowledgement of talks with Filoni has reignited fan interest. Over the years since the last main trilogy movie, Boyega has been open about his mixed feelings about his time in the franchise. In 2020 he criticised the way characters of colour were used in the sequel films, saying they were not given the narrative prominence expected based on early marketing.
Filoni, who took over leadership of Lucasfilm in January 2026 after the departure of former president Kathleen Kennedy, has been guiding the creative direction of future Star Wars films and series. He is highly regarded within the franchise for his deep knowledge and long history working on animated and live‑action Star Wars projects.
The conversation between Boyega and Filoni raises fresh questions about whether Finn could reappear in future Star Wars productions, or possibly be part of new storytelling directions under the franchise’s evolving leadership. For now, Boyega’s comment remains a tease rather than a firm announcement, leaving fans eager for official updates on his potential return.
