Margaret Qualley Reflects On Early Career Fears And Personal Growth
Actress Margaret Qualley has opened up about the emotional challenges she faced when she first entered the acting world, revealing that fear and self-doubt shaped her early experiences in Hollywood. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the 31-year-old shared candid reflections on how overwhelming it was beginning her career and how those early anxieties affected her sense of self and confidence.
Qualley said that starting young in the entertainment industry was intimidating, even though she had previously worked as a model. She explained that when she began acting in her late teens and early 20s, she often felt overwhelmed by the pressure to perform and worried about how she would be perceived by others. “I felt like if I was fully myself, women would hate me and men would hurt me,” she told the magazine, adding that fear sometimes took away her ability to feel comfortable with her own femininity.
The actress credited this fear to her youth and the intense scrutiny that comes with being in the public eye. Because of those early concerns, she said she struggled to let her true personality shine in front of the camera or in public settings. However, over time, Qualley said she gained more confidence and control over her life, allowing her to “lean more into the sensual and the feminine” parts of herself that she once held back.
Qualley also discussed how her marriage to musician and producer Jack Antonoff has positively influenced her confidence and self-expression. She shared that having a supportive partner has helped her explore parts of herself with less fear of judgment. In addition to her personal growth, she acknowledged that she has made professional decisions she considers learning experiences rather than mistakes, noting her drive and competitive nature sometimes led her to overcommit.
Despite the early struggles she described, Qualley has gone on to build a varied and successful career on screen, starring in television series and films, and continuing to take on challenging roles. Her journey reflects not only her artistic talent but also the personal strength she has developed over years in the industry.
