Ryan Seacrest Says His American Idol Comeback Is All About Comfort and Connection

Ryan Seacrest is back hosting American Idol for its new season and he says his focus hasn’t been on legacy but on making the show feel welcoming for audiences of all ages. He told People magazine that after nearly 24 years with the singing competition he still wants viewers to “feel comfortable” watching and enjoy the experience whether they’re watching alone or with family.

Seacrest, 51, who first started hosting American Idol in 2002, said what keeps him energised is meeting new contestants from across the country many of whom grew up watching the show and dreamed of auditioning.

He noted that the show has evolved over the years with more diverse contestants inspiring others to take a chance on their dreams and that his job is to help contestants and viewers feel at ease throughout the competition.

American Idol season 24 premiered on ABC on January 26 with Seacrest returning alongside judges including Luke Bryan Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood.
