Melissa Gilbert Says She’s Taking It Day by Day Amid Husband’s Criminal Charges

Actress Melissa Gilbert has publicly addressed the intense and emotional situation her family is facing after her husband, actor‑director Timothy Busfield, was charged with child sex abuse and child abuse related to alleged incidents involving minors.

In a message shared on Instagram through her lifestyle brand Modern Prairie, the 61‑year‑old Little House on the Prairie star thanked people for their support and described recent weeks as an “extraordinarily difficult time” for her and her family. Gilbert said the experience has taught her the importance of slowing down focusing on what matters and allowing space to rest and reflect.

She expressed deep gratitude for the “love patience and support” shown to her and Busfield saying it has helped her feel “safer more grounded and deeply held.” Gilbert added that she plans to ease back into her work thoughtfully and cautiously moving forward one step at a time.

Gilbert has continued to stand by her husband publicly. Earlier she submitted a letter to the judge defending Busfield as her partner in life and business praising his character and asking for his safety as he awaits trial.

Busfield 68 surrendered to authorities in New Mexico and is charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse allegations he has denied. He was released from custody while awaiting trial and no trial date has been announced
