Lena Dunham reveals Taylor Swift as biggest inspiration behind ‘Too Much’
Taylor Swift played a major role in close friend Lena Dunham’s new series, Too Much.
The 39-year-old writer and director revealed that her longtime friend and the pop superstar, 35, inspired one of the most significant scenes in the series.
The final season of the show featured Swift’s song Bigger Than The Whole Sky in an emotional scene where the character Jessica, played by Megan Stalter grieved over the death of her dog as well as her breakup.
Speaking about how the Grammy winner inspired the moment, Dunham told USA Today, “That song just said everything that had to be said about their relationship. I mean, it’s one of my absolute favorite moments in the show, and one of my absolute favorite moments I’ve ever had the chance to film.”
The Girls creator went on to credit Swift as being her source of inspiration every time she sits down to write, saying, “I’m always listening to [Swift] when I write. I mean, like 99.9 percent of America, I’m just always listening to her.”
The Anti-Hero hitmaker and Dunham have been friends since 2012 but this was the director’s “first time actually getting to use a T.S. song” in a project.
“I couldn’t feel luckier that she let us use it,” she said about using the 2022 track.
The duo first became friends when Dunham gushed about Swift’s album, Red, on Twitter, now X.
She later starred in Swift’s music video for Bad Blood and the Eras Tour performer attended Dunham’s wedding as a bridesmaid in 2021.
