Why Miley Cyrus Says Winning a Grammy for ‘Flowers’ Was ‘Healing’ for Her
Cyrus' upcoming album 'Something Beautiful' comes out on May 30
Miley Cyrus is remembering winning her first Grammy.
The “Wrecking Ball” singer appeared on the Wednesday, May 21, episode of The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music 1 to talk about her upcoming album Something Beautiful. Cyrus, 32, also reflected on her 2024 Grammy wins for Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year for “Flowers.”
“I think somewhere inside of me, I needed maybe to hold a trophy and just feel for a moment that I have something that I can hold in my hands that feels like a true achievement,” she explained.
“After every album, I’ve been able to say, well, I did what I came here to do and I made the album that I set out to make and that’s enough. But maybe it’s the kid in me.”
Cyrus added that she “needed something to hold” that made her feel like she won. “And so at the Grammys, that’s why I went, it was actually for healing.”
Upon being nominated, Cyrus hosted a party at the Chateau Marmont to celebrate the honor. She called the night “bittersweet” when making excuses about why she didn’t plan on attending the 2024 Grammys.
“One, it was, I was afraid, and there was fear. But I also don’t think I wanted to ever look at how much it would mean to me to win. Because every time that I’ve lost or every time that I’ve not been nominated, the way that I’ve been okay with that is that doesn’t matter to me,” Cyrus said.
However, Cyrus said she was avoiding the fact that the Grammy nomination did matter to her. “And not something I obsessed about or thought about or I never wrote a song thinking I want to get a Grammy, but receiving that Grammy for ‘Flowers’ was like, it felt more like a Band-Aid on a broken heart in some way.”

When she accepted the Record of the Year Grammy, she also spoke about the gravity of the honor.
“This award is amazing. But I really hope that it doesn’t change anything because my life was beautiful yesterday. Not everyone in the world will get a Grammy, but everyone in this world is spectacular,” she said before joking, “So please don’t think that this is important, even though it’s very important, right guys?”
She also gave her new accolade a shoutout when performing “Flowers” at the awards show.

In addition to the two Grammys Cyrus took home in 2024, she and Beyoncé won the 2025 Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the song “II MOST WANTED.”
Something Beautiful will be available to stream on Friday, May 30.
